India vs England 4th T20I: Aakash Chopra Criticizes Team Selection, Suggests Changes in Playing XI

The fourth T20I of the five-match series between India and England is set to take place in Pune on Friday, January 31. With India leading the series 2-1, they have a golden opportunity to seal the trophy before the final match in Mumbai on February 2. However, former India opener Aakash Chopra has raised concerns over the team’s selection and strategy, particularly regarding the use of Washington Sundar and Dhruv Jurel.

Chopra’s Take on Washington Sundar’s Underutilization

In a recent video on his YouTube channel, Aakash Chopra pointed out that all-rounder Washington Sundar is not being used effectively as a bowler. He noted that Sundar bowled just two overs in the previous game, despite taking a wicket with his very first ball, dismissing Ben Duckett. After a tidy first over, he was surprisingly not given another chance to bowl.

“In the second match, he was hit for runs in his first over, and then he wasn’t given another over at all. If the team is only planning to use him for one over, it would be better not to play him at all. While the pitch conditions might not favor spin, Sundar has performed well in a Test match at this venue before,” Chopra remarked.

He also mentioned that wicketkeeper-batsman Dhruv Jurel is not being utilized to his full potential, hinting at the need for a better role for him in the playing XI.

Preferred Batting Order and Team Combination

Chopra suggested a revised batting lineup, starting with Abhishek Sharma and Sanju Samson as openers. He believes Tilak Varma should bat at No. 3, followed by captain Suryakumar Yadav at No. 4. Hardik Pandya should take the No. 5 spot, with Shivam Dube following at No. 6.

For the lower order, he preferred vice-captain Axar Patel at No. 7, followed by four dedicated bowlers: Ravi Bishnoi, Varun Chakravarthy, Arshdeep Singh, and Mohammed Shami.

Bowling Strategy and Balance

Chopra emphasized the importance of sticking with four specialist bowlers, ensuring a strong bowling attack. He pointed out that Hardik Pandya can consistently deliver four overs, while Axar Patel will be the fifth bowler. Additionally, with part-time options like Tilak Varma and Abhishek Sharma available, he sees no need for extra all-rounders in the squad.
